Barramundi Pendant

Indigenous Design Ring and Barramundi Pendant

Amanda Kim was born in Brisbane, although her people are from the Birri Gubba nation in Far North Queensland.

She grew up in bohemian surroundings helping aunties, uncles and others work on their art.

Amanda picked up most of her skills providing support to her family.

“I grew up with art, grandfather and aunties. I used to help out, get up, do pieces on boomerangs - he made us paint them and varnish them.”

Amanda enjoys painting from her home in Cairns. The mountains that surround the house inspire her to create.

At the age of 11 she took to canvas, painting animals, ancestral beings and Indigenous designs.

This led to further opportunities later in life - a Gold Coast company snapped up her skills to paint leather pieces sold world-wide.

She is keen to sell her jewellery products on an international level.

“I’d really like to get into selling it. I’m starting out now, but I’d like to develop my marketing. The jewellery making was a good attempt for two weeks worth. I hope to develop my skills in the future.”

Amanda is committed to her art and even finds time to look after her husband, three children, two dogs and the cat.
