Robert
Mast is an exciting artist that has captured the attention of
art buffs world-wide.
Originally
from Badu Island in the Torres Straits, he learnt the art of traditional
carving under the watchful eye of his father.
Using
pearl shells and wood, he carves a range of products and recognises
the potential of generating an income from it.
His
ability to diversify with different tools and materials has seen
his works hanging in most major galleries in Australia and it’s
easy to see why.
Robert’s
passion fuels his desire to create – he likens it to breathing,
he just does it and creates.
“I’ve
always liked art; I’ve been doing this professionally for
the past 6 years. I love painting, carving and prints. A lot of
my work surrounds every day life and things like that.”
Working
with metal was simple for Robert, he sees this new medium as a
potential boom industry.
“I
found working with the jewellery easy because of the carving element.
Hopefully this will become a success and lead to bigger and better
things. The pieces are delicate and fine, people will find them
attractive.”
