Her journey to north Queensland took place when her family moved to the tropics for a change in scenery and lifestyle when she was very young. At the age of 13 she was taught to paint by her parents and she hasn’t stopped since. Years later this remarkable woman has painted a fantastic collection of works and souvenirs ranging from post cards, CDs, place mats, boomerangs and didgeridoos. “I am inspired by my family and my father and I continue to paint. Sometimes I do a little bit of contemporary art but mainly traditional stuff.“ Her work is colourful, rich and diverse. “Everything I do comes from the heart, it’s relaxing and I just feel my ancestors there with me.” North Queensland is a great location for Marnie, who has travelled nation-wide to paint and sell art – she feels the tropics is the best place for her to continue her craft. “Mainly I prefer to do 'origin' paintings around north Queensland. My art work sold fairly well in the Northern Territory, where I had a short stint. This is the first time I have tried jewellery and I’m really excited about the possibilities.” To view my pieces for sale click here |
